January (Winter) 2013 QVC Test Tube Review

I know, I KNOW, 3 in one day.  But I can't help that they all come at the same time!  I'll try to make this a quickie.

I don't believe I ever got around to reviewing past QVC test tubes.  I reviewed the New Beauty one here, which is essentially the same as the QVC version but there is a greater focus on skin care.  I cancelled the regular New Beauty one and kept the QVC because I LOVE QVC products.  About every other test tube has WEN, and they pretty much all have mally, tarte, and philosophy.  This is a quarterly subscription, and it costs $39.33 because QVC charges tax and shipping and handling.  The regular New Beauty box is only $29.99 and you can find promo codes to get your first box cheaper, plus the samples are higher value because skincare is pricey.  [Edit: I was wrong, the original New Beauty Test Tube charges S+H too, so the cost is comparable].

Date of arrival: January 15, 2013.

Packaging: Both the QVC and New Beauty test tubes come in a box that contains the New Beauty Magazine, a really detailed booklet with product info, and the tube of goodies.  Occasionally there will be products too big to fit in the test tube floating around the box, but that was not the case this month.

Contents: Full sized mally high shine lipstick (which is really a gloss) in starburst, tarte SmolderEYES in plum (I think), Julep Sasha (I already own two), Nick Chavez Advanced Volume Conditioner (which is cool because I got the shampoo in my December Birchbox), bliss hand cream, philosophy miracle worker anti-aging lactic acid cleanser & mask, fresh soy face cleanser (packet), algenist complete eye renewal balm, and ole hendrickson truth creme.

I haven't had a chance to review any of this, but I know from past beauty subs that I am going to love pretty much every product.  My mally and tarte products are some of my most used products.  This is why I can't quit the QVC test tube - there is never a single dud!

Value: This test tube rang in at $128.86.  Not bad for the $40 price tag!  If it were a $10 box, that is equivalent to a $32.76 value - right on par with this month's Birchbox and Glam Bag.

Overall impression of the tube: Honestly, when I first opened it, I wasn't that impressed.  I looked at the contents, looked at the bill, and thought "is this really worth 4 birchboxes?  or 4 glam bags?"  (the answer was yes, and no, respectively).  But the more I look at the products, the more I think it IS worth the $40.  I LOVE mally.  I LOVE tarte.  Those two products alone more than cover the cost of the box.  So it's like I'm paying for those and then getting a ton of other awesome high end samples FOR FREE.  When I think about it like that, I realize I am not mentally prepared to quit the QVC test tube, even though I probably should.  Sigh.  I give this one a B+.

Overall impression of the service: I really do love the QVC version of the test tube.  I have had no customer service issues.  This is on autopay, and they made sure they called me when my card expired instead of just cancelling my subscription, which I've seen a lot of other subs do to other people.  These boxes are consistently high value with a great selection.  A.

Man, QVC stopped test tube shipments to Canada :( This one looks extra great - I loved the bliss cream and philosophy in past boxes.

I also nominated you for a Liebster Award! Check out my blog for deets.

I'm starting my own blog- about subscription boxes and beauty products. brokebeautyblogger.blogspot.com
How do I get my blog out there? Thought I'd ask a blogger I like. This is a hobby I've always wanted to start and I am NOT trying to make money or anything off of it- I just don't want to put tons of hours into something that zero people read. Any advice would be appreciated.

How can I purchase one of these? The QVC website doesn't have this kit. Do they run out? Can I only purchase when they go on air? So new to this...

OH, I should have mentioned that! Unfortunately, you pretty much just have to stalk the QVC website until they are available again. It's always a limited time deal, and it sells out quick.
